Subject: Student Directed Inquiry TQA 2: comments invited on proposal

From: mike.jenkins@tqa.tas.gov.au

Date: June 13, 2012

To: TQA Co-ordinators and teachers of SDI

On 29 March we wrote to seek comment on a number of courses with accreditation expiring at the end of this year. We especially sought comment on the need for a Student Directed Inquiry course at TQA level 2. From comments received and our analysis of the nature of the course, it appears that the requirement for an extended student directed inquiry is not suitable at TQA level 2.

Our data shows that in 2010 only 2 qualifications were issued to students who had enrolled in the course.

We therefore propose:
* to develop a replacement course for Student Directed Inquiry TQA 3
* that no replacement for Student Directed Inquiry TQA level 2 will be developed.

This proposal, if adopted, will mean:
* there will not be a Student Directed Inquiry level 2 in 2013 and beyond
* there will be a revised Student Directed Inquiry level 3 for use in 2013 and beyond

If you would like to comment on this proposal please send me an email by 29 June 2012.
