File 00656/JF

FOR THE ATTENTION OF TCE COORDINATORS and TEACHERS OF SCIENCE OF THE PHYSICAL WORLD SENIOR SECONDARY 2 - 4.

At the Term 1 moderation meeting there was no opportunity to determine a moderation task for this year. To provide a focus for the Term 2 meeting on August 27, teachers are asked to bring an exemplar task/s that they have used with students this year. Criterion 4 is being moderated across all Year 11/12 science syllabus in 2004 including Science of the Physical World.

Moderated Criteria
Criterion 4: develop and evaluate experiments

Moderation Process
Please bring an example of a criterion 4 task that you have used with your students this year. It would be most useful if you could also provide a document that describes what you expected a student to demonstrate for them to get an A, B or C rating. You might also identify other criteria that could be assessed by the task.

At the moderation meeting on August 27 there will be a sharing of the tasks and a discussion about which of them would be good exemplars for inclusion in the syllabus supplement.

Also we are pleased to advise that Ross Mansfield and Ian Glover have agreed to share the role of moderator. Their contact details are:
